The Clifden Slí na Sláinte is a 5.6km route, which starts and finishes in Clifden town centre. The route follows the scenic Sky Road, onto to Clifden Beach Road, and then back to Clifden town via the harbour.
To follow the route, walk past St.Joseph’s Church on the Westport Road and take the first left onto Church Hill. You will pass the ruin of St.Mary’s Chapel and Graveyard (1824) on your left and further on, Christ Church (1853). At the T-junction, turn right onto the Sky Road and continue ahead. You will soon pass the monument to John D’Arcy, founder of Clifden town. Follow the Sky Road for 2km until you come to a left turn at the entrance to John D’Arcy’s Clifden Castle (1815). Follow the lane downhill to Clifden Beach and at the bottom of the hill turn left onto the Beach Road with beautiful views of Clifden Bay and the Ardbear peninsula to the right. Follow the route for a further 2km, passing Clifden Harbour and back into Clifden town. This is suitable as a daytime walk only and can be walked in both directions.
