Connemara is a large region which covers a large portion of Co. Galway, west of Lough Corrib. It is bordered by Co. Mayo to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. Galway city is the main gateway city to Connemara when travelling from the east and south of Ireland. From Galway, take the N59 road signposted for Clifden, or the R337 for Spiddal/Barna. Visitors travelling to Connemara from Co Mayo enter the region through Westport and Leenane on the N59, or through Ballinrobe and Clonbur on the R345.

COMING BY CAR
From Dublin to Connemara: When coming from Dublin, take the M4 & M6 routes to Galway City. When you reach Galway City, take the N59 road signposted to Clifden or the R337 for Spiddal/Barna.
From Shannon Airport to Connemara: When travelling from Limerick and Shannon use the M18 & N18 routes to Galway City. When you reach Galway City, take the N59 road signposted to Clifden or the R337 for Spiddal/Barna.
From Knock Airport to Connemara: When leaving Knock Airport, take the N5 to Westport. When in Westport, take the N59 road signposted to Leenane/Clifden. Alternatively, take the N17 to Claremorris, then the R331 to Ballinrobe. Follow the signposts for Clonbur (An Fhairce) and continue on to the R345.
COMING BY BUS/COACH
There are two main bus companies that offer regular bus services from in the Connemara region.

Citylink offers a regular coach service from Galway to Clifden, Cleggan and Letterfrack daily, and also offers a service between Galway City and Dublin city and Dublin Airport.

Bus Éireann offers a regular coach services too and from the Connemara region, from Galway city and Westport, and also from Galway City to Dublin city and Dublin Airport.
