Save The Date !!! May 29th – June 4th 2018 Bog Week 2018 Highlights: 5km Family Run/Jog/Walk – fundraiser for Youth activities organised by Forum. Followed by Family Fun Day in Letterfrack. Daily guided walks in the Connemara National Park. Kylemore Abbey Concerts in the Gothic Church. After the success of last years Connemara Walkabout we are running more this year on the bank holiday weekend. Letterfrack Poetry Trail. Plenty of mighty music with pub gigs & sessions, more to be announced!
Conamara Bog Week
Connemara plays host to the inaugural ‘Tour De Bens’ named after our famous mountain range – The Twelve Bens. The 2017 Tour de Bens is an 80km sportive for all levels of ability. The event started by the newly formed Twelve Bens Cycling Club will take place on Saturday 9th September 2017, starting at 10am. The route encompasses the majestic Twelve Bens mountains, through Letterfrack, Clifden, Inagh Valley, Renvyle & the Sky Road. There will also be a shorter route of 57km available. This year’s event will also support a local charity Connemara Therapeutic Riding. Ten days a year the Clifden Arts Festival transforms the capital of Connemara into a captivating conglomeration of culture. Come experience this very special time in Clifden, the jewel of Connemara. Clifden Arts Festival
Conamara Sea Week is a multi-disciplinary festival, celebrating the wonderful marine heritage of Conamara. The festival celebrated it’s 30th birthday in 2014 and has grown to be a wonderful and unique festival with something to interest all age groups. Highlights include music workshops, art exhibitions, concerts, talks, walks, children’s activities, sports events, lots of great music and buckets of fun for all the family. A special highlight for the last few years has been the wonderful ‘After the Light’ parade, a spectacular night full of myth, magic, madness and mayhem! Conamara Sea Week
Experience a beautiful town being taken over by the best of Irish music, song and dance! The annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival, known locally as Trad Fest, takes place from in April in Clifden, Connemara. Trad Fest highlights include: CD Launches Tune Composition Competition Music Sessions, Concerts Workshops Outdoor Gig Performances 5K Run/Walk Street Entertainment Busking competition. Musicians will travel from all over the country for the festival. As always at the Trad Fest, most events are free and we encourage everyone to come along and experience what should be a great weekend of music, song and dance – there is something to suit everyone! 2018 dates confirmed: 5th to 8th April 2018
Clifden Traditional Music Festival
The Connemara International Marathon is one of the world’s most scenic events, set in the stunning landscape of the West of Ireland. 2018 will mark the Connemarathon’s seventeenth year. Runners and walkers travel from all over the world to take part in the Connemarathon. It’s well worth it — all participants get to experience some of Ireland’s most breath-taking scenery along the way. The event is comprised of: Half marathon Full marathon Ultra (39.3 mile) marathon International participants enjoy a warm Irish welcome along with the sense of comradeship on the route and the unmistakable buzz of the day. Named the The Best Food Festival of the Year 2014 by McKenna’s Guides Megabites, the 2018 Connemara Mussel Festival is now in its 13th year. The Festival brilliantly celebrates community, food and culture of the West of Ireland. With so much to choose from, everyone will find something to love about this Festival. Some of the many highlights are: Professional cooking demonstrations with some of the finest culinary experts in Ireland. Delicious Killary mussels served throughout the weekend. Walks and talks exploring the Connemara landscape. Artisan food market showcasing the best of local food and craft offerings. Kids’ entertainment: theatre, cooking, sports, art and more. Connemara Mussel Festival
A full weekend of walks and events for walkers of all abilities. A chance to experience hills and trails that aren’t normally accessible to the general public. All guided walks are led by qualified and experienced guides, aided by locals with vast knowledge and information on the area. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as well as tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day. All walkers are covered by Public Liability Insurance.
The Leenane Walking Festival
The very popular SKODA Tour de Conamara 2018 will be held on Saturday 26th May 2018 starting and finishing in Clifden, Connemara. The event offers participants the choice of stunning 140km or 80km routes and will travel through magnificent coastal, lakeland, valley and mountainous vistas. More info @ http://tourdeconamara.ie Register early as this event reaches capacity very quickly. The Tour de Conamara is not a closed road event. You must adhere to the normal rules of the road. Feed Stations will be located along the routes. First Aid will be available on the day. A ‘No Helmet No Cycle’ policy will be strictly enforced. The events operates a ‘Leave No Trace’ litter policy. Please bring home your litter. Punctures: Please ensure you can change a puncture and bring spare tubes. It may be some time before support can arrive to a spot where a cyclist may have picked up a puncture so please ensure you can change your own wheel or cycle with someone that will assist you to avoid long delays that will impact on your enjoyment of the day. SKODA Tour de Conamara Cycling Event
A festival of pony filled activities in Mid August annually! From parades, to musical evenings, to discussion and talks with the highlight of the week being the Connemara Pony Show on Thursday. This is a world famous event attracting visitors from all over the world. With a history dating back to 1924, there are over 400 ponies on show. It is the largest display of Connemara Ponies anywhere in the world.Visitors are treated to the spectacle of seeing the ponies demonstrate their prowess in trials and competitions under the watchful eye of experienced judges and a win is always a source of great pride for the pony’s dedicated owner.The Connemara Pony is a distinctive breed with excellent qualities: strong, intelligent and very hard working, perfect for the wild unforgiving landscape of Connemara, the Galway region that gave them their name. Their genial disposition makes them excellent pets while their powerful build makes them good jumpers and great show ponies. Every year on the third Thursday of August the Connemara Pony Breeders hold their annual show in the Showgrounds in Clifden, attracting thousands from all over Ireland, Europe and beyond.
